Katie Fischer
"Hello! I’m Katie (she/her) and I welcome you on this step in your healing journey. Take a moment to read about me and how we could work together. If we seem to align, I look forward to co-creating a safe and nurturing space for you to explore, grow, and expand.
About me:
Born and raised in the greater Austin area, I enjoy dancing, being outdoors, and adventuring, often combining these in long “dance walks” around the city. My top two mantras are, “Safety first,” and “Be here, now,” and I strive to help others know themselves more deeply and express themselves more fully. I am also a treasure hunter and explorer of the natural world, and I love to laugh, prefer to be in movement, and ask a lot of questions.
About my experience and expertise:
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I received my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Edward’s University in Austin. I offer individual, group, couples, and family counseling and use a variety of methods and techniques, tailored to each client’s needs. My clinical work in both psychiatric inpatient and outpatient settings has given me ample experience with the full range of psychiatric diagnoses, crisis management and reintegration, and medication management. More specifically, I specialize in issues of depression, the spectrums of Bipolar and Borderline Personality disorders, anxiety, suicidal thoughts/ideations and safety planning, psychosis, transitions, loss, anger expression and management, relationships, ADHD, and neurodivergence. In tandem with this education and experience, my own mental health path and ongoing healing provides me with rich material, including perspectives, experiential knowing, and (most of all) a deep well of understanding and empathy.
About my approach:
When we explore, stay curious, and grow in awareness and insight, we initiate the change we desire, which leads to whole-health. As your therapist, I hope to serve as a guide to empower you to recognize and rely on your own strengths and inner knowing. You know your experience and personal journey- and I am here to offer a fresh set of eyes, suggest different perspectives, and provide clarity so you can move with confidence.
Providing a safe space to do this work, I welcome all forms of expression and will go at your pace as you challenge yourself, make desired changes, and hopefully find movement in the ‘stuck’ areas. I value and cultivate mutual respect and trust, honor and validate your individuality and uniqueness, and rely on both my clinical knowledge of how our human minds, emotions, and behaviors work together, and my innate intuition on a more “felt” level.
How we do all of this depends on what you need, and I will use a variety of therapeutic modalities and techniques to reach your personal goals. Some of these methods might include: CBT (targeting thought patterns to initiate change), DBT (focusing on regulating emotions to shift behaviors), mindfulness (staying in the present moment to help you ground), and movement-oriented/body-aware approaches (because we can’t just talk about it!). These approaches- through dance and other movement activities- might include: increasing your attunement with your body, finding physical expression and release of locked-up emotions, processing trauma on a somatic level, and activating play and imagination to promote healing.
About my services:
I offer individual, group, couples, and family counseling in both virtual and in-person sessions, as well as “walk-and-talk” sessions, where we can talk and move in an outdoor environment. Please inquire about current group offerings.
In closing:
I am wishing you well and am here for support! May you find a warm and welcoming place to land and may you grow in health and peace!"
